Something New in Isla de Gigantes

Gigantes Island has marveled magnificently over the past few years and locals are also racing with the fast pace of this growth. It is still naturally captivating and it is up to the folks how they can add a little spice to this splendor.

Barangay Asluman which is home to the 18th century old lighthouse is one of the go-to tourist destinations in Gigantes. It is an hour and a half boat ride from Bancal port aboard a motorboat and is home to many accommodation facilities that can cater to tourists who wish to visit for a day or overnight. This lighthouse has been witness to the islands highs and lows. Highs when the name Gigantes soared to the world’s peak and lows when nature tried to sweep away the beauty that it holds.

Now, it is still as striking as it is; a beacon of nature's glory! In addition to it's beauty, a coffee shop where one can enjoy the exquisiteness of the terrain while sharing a cup of coffee or choco with friends and family has been established. It didn’t have a name yet when we visited but I strongly suggested they do to brand the newly established shop. Since the coffee shop was built by collaborative efforts of the Asluman Cooperative Association, I suggested why not call it, “Asluman Coffee Shop”, “Kapihan sa Asuman” or “Kapihan sa Parola” or “Lighthouse Coffee Shop”. I hope they consider so that people from afar will also look forward to visiting the place.

This coffee shop is simple, timid and subtle. A cup is perfect when you take a glimpse of the splashing waves on the rocks and feel its warmth raving with the cold surge of the breeze. The barista is also the tenant of the lighthouse even before the coffee shop was erected and encourages every tourist to relax a bit from a tiring day of island hopping and also accepts donations for the preservation not only of the shop but the ambience as well.
